FRIENDS OF WATERSMEET FILM SOCIETY

MEMBERS OF THE BRITISH FEDERATION OF FILM SOCIETIES

We have introduced a membership scheme, full details and an application form can be obtained from the membership secretary on 01923 772278.  There will be special benefits for members including discounted tickets, a reserved seating area and film discussion groups. Tickets for non-members are priced at £5 -  concessions at £3 (matinee) and £4 (evening).

ADVANCE NOTICE WILL BE GIVEN OF ANY CHANGES.

18 September    HAIRSPRAY    Cert. PG  107 mins
Set in 1962 Baltimore, the film follows a "pleasantly plump" teen named Tracey Turnblad as she simultaneously pursues stardom as a dancer on a local TV show and rallies against racial segregation.
Starring John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and introducing newcommer Nikki Blonsky as Tracey Turnblad.

25 September     MAMMA MIA! - THE MOVIE -        PG -13 108 mins Meryl Streep heads the cast of the film, playing the role of single mother  Donna Sheridan  Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgard play the three potential fathers to Donna's daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried).

The story is about the bond that develops in Afghanistan between a privileged youth, Amir, and the son of his father's servant, Hassan, who both have a love of kite flying.
 

27 November    THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL  Cert. 12A  114 mins
Sir Thomas Boleyn is determined to secure his family's power and status through the marriages of his children, George, Anne and Mary. With Mary betrothed to William Carey, Thomas agrees to help his brother, the Duke of Norfolk, secure Anne's place as the King's new mistress.

Johnny Depp stars in the title role as a man unjustly sent to prison who  vows revenge, not only for that cruel punishment, but for the devastating  consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter.  When he returns to reopen his barber shop, Sweeney Todd becomes    the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who " shaved the heads of  gentlemen who never thereafter were heard from again. "
Joining Depp is Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs Lovett, Sweeney's amorous accomplice, who creates diabolical meat pies. Also starring Alan Rickman as the evil Judge Turpin.

12 February    UNDER THE SAME MOON  Cert. PG-13  110 mins  
This drama centres on a young boy's journey across the U.S/Mexico border to be reunited with his mother.  Adrian Alonso stars as Carlitos, a Mexican adolescent living with his grandmother while his mother works as a maid in the U.S., hoping someday to send for her child.  When the grandmother dies unexpectedly, Carlitos must sneak across the border to seek out his mother.
Spanish with English subtitles.

19 March    FEMALE AGENTS    Cert.15  120 mins.
A second world war thriller, based on a true story. A five-woman commando unit parachutes into occupied France in a daring operation  to rescue a wounded British geologist from the clutches of the Nazis.
Female Agents is a fitting tribute to the tenacity and bravery of France's Resistance heroines.
French, German and English with English sub titles
